Method
Prepare the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Let sit for about 5 minutes until the yeast is foamy.
- Add the sugar, canola oil, eggs, flour, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
Prepare the Filling
- In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and melted margarine until well combined.
Assemble the Cake
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread the cinnamon filling evenly over the rolled-out dough.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log, then coil it into a greased cake pan or bundt pan.
- Cover the assembled cake with a cloth and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake and Serve
- Mix the granulated sugar and cinnamon for the topping and sprinkle it over the risen cake.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the dough. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days. Reheat slices in the oven for a fresh-out-of-the-oven experience.
