Ingredients
Method
- Mix all the taco seasoning ingredients together in a small bowl. Set aside.
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Don't stir too much at first - let it get a nice brown color.
- Drain any excess fat from the pan. Add the homemade seasoning mix and stir to coat the meat evenly.
- Pour in the water or beef broth and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes until the liquid reduces and the flavors meld together. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
- Warm the tortillas in a dry skillet or directly over a gas flame until soft and pliable.
- Fill each tortilla with the seasoned beef and top with diced onion, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime. Serve immediately.
Notes
The seasoning mix makes enough for about 1 pound of ground beef. You can double or triple the recipe and store extra in an airtight container for up to 6 months. For less heat, reduce or omit the cayenne pepper. Ground turkey or chicken work well as substitutes for beef.
