Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb ground beef preferably lean
  • 1 tbsp olive oil for sautéing
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 1 medium green bell pepper finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup ketchup kosher
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce ensure it's kosher
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper freshly ground
  • 6 hamburger buns toasted, check for kosher certification

Method
 

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and bell pepper, and sauté until soft, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  3. Increase the heat to medium-high, add the ground beef, and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
  4. Drain excess fat if necessary, then stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper.
  5. Simmer the mixture on low heat for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the flavors meld together.
  6. Serve the beef mixture on toasted hamburger buns. Enjoy warm with your favorite sides.

Notes

For a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
