Air fryer French fries are golden, crunchy outside and fluffy inside, made with russet potatoes and just a tablespoon of oil, seasoned with salt, pepper and optional garlic powder and paprika.
Tips for Crispy Air Fryer Fries
Russets have the high starch content that makes fluffy fries. Cut them evenly, soak in cold water to remove surface starch, then dry them completely before tossing with oil. For extra crispy fries, cook them twice: 8 minutes at 350°F, then 5 to 7 minutes at 400°F. Don’t overcrowd the basket; cook in batches if needed.
Kosher Notes
These fries are pareve, so they go with any meal.
Leftovers
Leftovers keep for 3 days and re-crisp in the air fryer in 2 to 3 minutes. Timing varies by air fryer model.

Method
- Wash and peel the potatoes. Cut them into evenly sized fries, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick. Try to keep them uniform so they cook evenly.
- Place the cut fries in a large bowl and cover with cold water. Let them soak for 30 minutes to remove excess starch.
- Drain the potatoes and pat them completely dry with clean kitchen towels or paper towels. This step is crucial for crispiness.
- In a large bowl, toss the dried fries with oil, salt, pepper, and any optional seasonings until evenly coated.
- Preheat your air fryer to 380°F (193°C) for 3 minutes.
- Place the fries in the air fryer basket in a single layer. You may need to work in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Cook for 12 minutes, then shake the basket and rearrange the fries. Cook for another 6-8 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the fries and immediately season with additional kosher salt while they're still hot. Serve immediately for best texture.
