Deliciously Kosher Caesar Salad with Homemade Dressing

Caesar salad, with its roots tracing back to the early 20th century, is beloved for its creamy dressing and crunchy croutons. Traditionally containing anchovies and Parmesan cheese, this kosher version modifies the classics while maintaining its zesty charm. Perfect as a refreshing appetizer or a light dinner, this salad pairs beautifully with dishes like roasted chicken or a hearty matzo ball soup. The homemade dressing is a standout, showcasing the art of emulsification, making it a rewarding dish to prepare and enjoy.

Tips

Dry the lettuce completely after washing so the dressing clings. Whisk the dressing until it is thick and emulsified, and toss the salad just before serving so the croutons stay crunchy.

Kosher Notes

This salad is pareve because it uses pareve Parmesan. Many Worcestershire sauces contain anchovies, and many people do not eat fish with meat or poultry. If you are serving this salad with chicken or another meat meal, use a fish-free Worcestershire sauce with a reliable hechsher. Romaine lettuce should be checked carefully for insects, or use bagged lettuce that is certified insect-free.

Variations

Top it with grilled chicken for a meat meal, or with real Parmesan and a soft-boiled egg for a dairy meal.
